The Cachar District Youth Congress organized a protest rally in Silchar on Thursday. They burned effigies of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The rally began at Indira Bhavan and included a march through the city, culminating in the burning of the effigies at Brahmanbariar Point.
Youth Congress officials alleged that while special packages were announced for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh in the 2024-25 budget, no compensation has been announced for the damages caused by the historic 2022 flood in Silchar.
Youth Congress President Randhir Debnath stated that while the state’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engages in politics over race and religion, he has done nothing for the development of the society. They also criticized Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, noting that despite promising to start construction of the Tarapur Shivbari Road corridor within ten days, the work has not yet begun.
The effigy of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was burned in protest against the attack on the All India Youth Congress President Srinivas BV in Bihar. Youth Congress officials stated that the people of Bihar will give a fitting response in the upcoming elections.
The protest rally was attended by Silchar Youth Congress President Randhir Debnath, Ansar Hussen Barlaskar, Sahid Anwar, Chandan Majumdar, and Subhashish Dev, along with other party officials.
