Cachar to Plant 1.12 Lakh Trees in 2024 Amrit Brikshya Andolan

District Administration Engages Schools, Offices, and Community for Effective Tree Planting

Cachar District aims to plant 1.12 lakh trees in 2024 as part of Assam’s Amrit Brikshya Andolan, enhancing green cover and promoting environmental growth. This initiative is a crucial part of Assam’s larger goal of planting 3 crore trees across the state to boost environmental sustainability.

The tree planting campaign was officially launched today at the Divisional Forest Office in Silchar, Cachar District. The event was attended by several key officials, including District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, MLA of Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, MLA of Lakhipur Kaushik Rai, and senior officials from the Forest Department. This launch event marks the beginning of the district’s contribution to the larger state initiative, setting a positive tone for the upcoming planting activities.

The campaign will run from August 1 to 15, during which tree saplings will be distributed to various institutions such as schools, colleges, police stations, government offices, and the army. This distribution aims to engage a broad section of the community in the tree planting effort.

The Cachar District administration is actively encouraging local organizations, businesses, and individuals to participate in the initiative. By involving the community, the district aims to foster a sense of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.

Last year, under the same campaign, Cachar District planted an impressive 4.55 lakh trees. Building on this success, the current target is to plant 1.12 lakh trees. This local effort is part of the larger Amrit Brikshya Andolan, which saw Assam plant 1 crore trees last year and aims to plant 3 crore trees this year.

The Amrit Brikshya Andolan is a movement aimed at involving citizens in commercial tree plantation and environmental conservation. Its primary objective is to increase Trees Outside Forest (ToF) areas, boost the state’s green economy, and promote sustainable practices. By enhancing the ‘Tree Economy’, the initiative seeks to attract investment, create employment opportunities, and support the people of Assam.

Cachar District’s active participation in this campaign is crucial to achieving Assam’s overall goal of a greener and more sustainable future.
