Assam cancels 50 lakh ration cards. 40 lakh fake cards found. Names of missing family members to be added soon. Panchayat elections set for December.
Assam’s government has uncovered 40 lakh fake ration cards in the state. The Supply Department has canceled 50 lakh ration cards so far.
At a press conference in Silchar BJP office, Minister Ranjit Das revealed that the government has identified these 40 lakh fake ration cards. Additionally, the Supply Department has already canceled 50 lakh ration cards.
Minister Das also announced that names of family members who were left out of existing ration cards will soon be added. The government is aware of discrepancies due to errors by operators, and it is working to correct these issues.
The state government has instructed every district magistrate to act on this matter. In response to the Chief Minister’s call, 10 lakh influential people have submitted their ration cards to the government.
Overall, 50 lakh ration cards have been canceled in Assam. Currently, there are 6,625,917 ration cards in the state.
Minister Das also provided an update on the upcoming panchayat elections. The elections, scheduled for December, will be free from political influence and party symbols. Panchayat members, not the general public, will elect the Panchayat President. Panchayat reorganization will be completed by August 31, and block reorganization by September 7. This reorganization will follow the 2001 census data.
Regarding ongoing protests about smart meters, Minister Das declined to comment and suggested addressing the issue with the Power Minister.
