Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced various projects in Barak Valley, including road repair, medical facilities, and water supply schemes.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Barak Valley from August 22 to 24, announcing several new projects and initiatives. Here are the key highlights of his visit:
Cachar Cancer Hospital: The Chief Minister sanctioned ₹12 crore for Cachar Cancer Hospital to purchase a second LINAC machine, which will enhance cancer treatment facilities.
Hailakandi Medical College: The Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi has been instructed to find a suitable location for constructing a new medical college in Hailakandi.
Water Supply Schemes: Approval was granted for the Hailakandi and Karimganj Water Supply Scheme, with a budget exceeding ₹100 crore. Tenders have already been issued for the project.
Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH): A new 500+ bed hospital at SMCH is expected to be ready by November next year. Following this, a 1,000-bed hospital will be constructed, and a master plan for SMCH will also be developed.
Road Repairs in Silchar: Thirteen roads in Silchar town will be repaired before Durga Puja, with ₹14 crore sanctioned for the work. Additionally, the road from Rangirkhari to SMCH will be widened, including the construction of new drains, with a budget of ₹30 crore. The existing road will also be improved at a cost of ₹5.5 crore.
Shibbari Sinking Zone: To address the issue in the Shibbari sinking zone, a new age technology will be used. An RCC slab, based on 400 piles, will be constructed at a cost of ₹70 crore. Work is set to begin in 10 days.
Other Road Projects: Various other road repairs and improvements have been announced, including the Kumbhirgram to Udharbond road, roads in Karimganj and Hailakandi Municipal areas, and several stretches in Silchar and its surroundings.
Elevated Road in Silchar: A plan is being prepared for a 7 km elevated road with a double-decker flyover in Silchar, worth ₹1,200 crore. The project will be executed in two phases, pending feasibility analysis and public consent.
These projects aim to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and water supply in the Barak Valley region, reflecting the government’s commitment to the area’s development.
