Bangladeshi ex-NIT Silchar student Sadat Hossain Alphi faces backlash for anti-India post. Police probe underway, and demands grow for degree cancellation.
Sadat Hossain Alphi, a Bangladeshi former student of NIT Silchar, is facing serious backlash for his anti-India content on social media. The controversy emerged over the weekend, leading Silchar police to initiate an investigation. On Saturday, a police team visited NIT Silchar to evaluate the situation, engaging with officials and students to collect relevant information.
Alphi, who completed his Computer Science Engineering degree at NIT Silchar in July 2024, is currently residing in Bangladesh. The ongoing investigation is part of efforts by the institution and local authorities to address the issue and ensure peace.
The situation has garnered attention from local organizations, including the Bajrang Dal. On Sunday, the Bajrang Dal lodged a formal complaint at the Ghungur police post against Alphi. They have strongly condemned his posts and called for stringent action. The organization is pressing the authorities to take decisive steps against him.
Furthermore, the Hindu Rakkhi Dal has escalated the matter by submitting a memorandum to prominent officials, including the Home Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Assam. They are demanding the immediate revocation of Alphi’s degree and his deportation, arguing that NIT Silchar should not retain individuals who spread anti-India sentiment. They emphasize the need for the institution to uphold its values and integrity.
This case underscores the difficulties faced by educational institutions in managing allegations involving their former students and highlights the broader implications of social media conduct.
