A Hailakandi youth seeking treatment in Silchar was found dead. His body was recovered from Vudurail Khal of Kathal Road and Bypass junction.
In a tragic development, the body of a Hailakandi youth who had come to Silchar for medical treatment was found at the Kathal Road and Bypass junction on Sunday afternoon. The discovery of the body in Vudurail Khal has raised alarm and concern in the local community.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Babul Das, a resident of Garmura in Hailakandi district. His sudden death has stirred considerable interest among locals. The body was found after a significant number of onlookers gathered at the scene. Rangirkhari police arrived promptly and, with the help of local residents, recovered the body. It was then sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Initial investigations by the police found a voter ID card, two 500-rupee notes, and some small change in the pockets of the deceased. The police are currently trying to determine whether his death was due to foul play or self-harm.
Family members revealed that Babul Das had been struggling with mental health issues recently. On Saturday, his elder brother, Raju Das, brought him to Silchar to visit a private nursing home. Due to a delay in the appointment, they decided to stay at the home of a married sister near the Kathal Road and Bypass junction. That night, around 10 PM, Babul Das went missing. His family reported his disappearance to the Rangirkhari Town Outpost on Sunday morning.
By 2 PM, the body was found floating under the Vudurail Bridge. After identifying the body, Babul Das’s family confirmed that it was indeed him. The police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
