A fatal road accident in Katakhal claimed the life of 37-year-old GRS worker Kumar Gaurav Deb after a bus and Alto car collision.

The accident took place when an Ultra bus and a Maruti Alto car collided head-on, instantly killing Kumar at the scene. The Alto, bearing registration number AS-10D 6587, was crushed in the crash, and a scooter also got caught in the collision. Kumar was driving the Alto at the time, traveling from Shalchapra towards Katakhal.
The accident created widespread panic in the local area. Upon receiving the news, Katakhal police rushed to the scene and quickly transported Kumar to the Kalinga Sarojini Primary Health Center, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later sent to Hailakandi Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
Locals have blamed the poor road conditions for the increasing number of accidents in the area. They pointed out large potholes and untrimmed roadside trees near the Katakhal Bridge on National Highway 37, which frequently cause accidents. Residents have demanded that the district authorities, including Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Nisarg Hivare Gautam and the Public Works Department, cut down the hazardous trees to prevent further incidents.
Hailakandi Additional District Magistrate Tridib Roy visited the Kalinga hospital grounds, where locals informed him of the road safety concerns.
