Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul inspects flood damage as the Longai River breaches danger levels, causing severe disruption in Karimganj district.
On Wednesday, Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, accompanied by a circle officer, visited the flood-affected regions of Nalugaon, Parugaon, and Kachubari. They inspected the damaged river embankments and reassured local residents.
Karimganj district is facing severe flooding as the Longai River surpasses danger levels. The embankment in Kachubari has collapsed, flooding Patharkandi and washing away part of a concrete bridge. Several villages are submerged, causing widespread panic.
The flooding, worsened by heavy rainfall in Mizoram, has led to the breaching of embankments and damage to farmland, including submerged paddy seedlings. Vegetable gardens and fisheries have also been affected. Local farmers are concerned about further crop damage if the rains continue.
