Road Accident in Patharkandi: 6 Dead, Including 18-Month-Old Baby

Collision on NH 8 Results in Multiple Fatalities and Road Blockade

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, a road accident in Patharkandi, Karimganj District, claimed the lives of six people, including an 18-month-old baby. The collision occurred at Berajal area on NH 8, involving an auto rickshaw and a Hyundai Venue with registration number AS-11/S8323.

The accident was so severe that both vehicles fell into a paddy field. Five victims died instantly, leaving the scene of the accident in utter devastation. Local residents rushed to rescue the injured, showing remarkable bravery and humanity in the face of such horror.

The injured were taken to Patharkandi Hospital, where one more person succumbed to their injuries. Zakir Hussain, a survivor, remains in critical condition, battling for his life.

The tragedy cast a pall over the community as news of the accident spread. The deceased, identified as Gulzar Hussain (32), Jahida Begom (26), Sajidul Hussain (18 months), Bedana Begom (50), Rahul Alom (30), and Hasna Begum (50), left behind heartbroken families and shattered lives.

Five of the deceased belonged to the same family. The sole survivor of the family, a 4-year-old boy named Sakibul, faces an uncertain future after losing his parents, grandmother, and sibling in the crash.

Gulzar Hussain was driving the auto rickshaw. Hasna Begum, a resident of Aslakandi, Tukurgram, was the mother-in-law of Rahul Alom. Bedana Begom, Jahida Begom, and Sajidul Hussain were Rahul Alom’s mother, wife, and son, respectively, from Chandkhira area of Patharkandi.

Following the accident, local residents blocked the road in protest, causing significant traffic disruptions on the National Highway. The Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, Mridul Yadav, Police Superintendent Partha Protim Das, and other officials quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and ensure law and order. Police forces were deployed to prevent any further incidents.

Local MLA Krishnendu Paul mourned the loss, expressing his deep condolences to the affected families. The community is left grappling with grief as they come to terms with this devastating loss.
