Chief Minister Sarma laid the foundation for a new Barak River bridge in Silghat, set to enhance connectivity and boost local development.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for a new bridge over the Barak River in Silghat on Thursday. This marks a big step towards better connectivity in the area. The ceremony was attended by several important figures, including Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai, Udharband MLA Mihir Kanti Shome, and Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty. Islamic scholar Maulana Ahmad Sayeed Govindapuri was also present.
Other attendees included Cachar’s guardian minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, PWD Commissioner Chandan Sharma, and contractor company manager Yogendra Singh. The construction contract has been given to DD Sharma Infrastructure Limited from Guwahati.
Chief Minister Sarma announced that the bridge will be completed in two years. He noted that the Assam government has allocated 87 crore rupees for the project and that the tender process is finished. Sarma said the new bridge will improve connections between Sonai and Lakhipur and praised MLAs Kaushik Rai and Mihir Kanti Shome for their efforts in securing the funding.
The bridge is expected to greatly benefit the people of Lakhipur by making travel to Silchar city easier. Local residents, who have long awaited this development, are grateful for the project. The new bridge is expected to boost economic and social growth in Silghat and the Barak Valley region.
