Police Seize 18,000 YABA Tablets in Cachar District

Cachar Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking in Major Bust

On September 20, 2024, police in Cachar seized 18,000 YABA tablets and 2 kg of meth from a truck, arresting two men with contraband valued at ₹15.5 crores.

On the evening of September 20, 2024, the Cachar police intercepted a truck with registration number AS01LC/4859 in Banskandi, located in the jurisdiction of Lakhipur Police Station. Officers arrested two individuals: 25-year-old Suraj Chetri from Gorchulh village in Kamrup and Mongaljith Rajkumar from Patharkandi, Karimganj.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, police discovered 18,000 YABA tablets and 2 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine hidden in secret compartments. The estimated black market value of the seized drugs is around ₹15.5 crores. Authorities believe the contraband was being transported from Imphal, Manipur.

An ongoing investigation aims to uncover more details about the operation and the suspects’ connections.
