NIT Student Sent Back to Bangladesh Over Anti-India Post

Maisha Mahjabin, a B Tech student from NIT Silchar, returned to Bangladesh after her social media activity sparked controversy.

NIT Silchar student Maisha Mahjabin sent back to Bangladesh after liking an anti-India post. NIT says she had applied for leave before the incident.

Maisha Mahjabin, a B Tech student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, was sent back to Bangladesh on Monday following controversy over Anti-India Post on social media. Mahjabin, who joined the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) program in 2021, was currently interning at NF Railway.

The issue arose when Mahjabin liked an anti-India post on Facebook made by Sadat Hossain Alphi, a recent NIT Silchar graduate in Computer Science. The post had been shared widely, and screenshots were circulated by a former Assam University student, leading to multiple complaints against her.

According to police sources, Mahjabin crossed the India-Bangladesh border in Karimganj on Monday morning under strict security. However, NIT Silchar authorities clarified that Mahjabin had applied for leave on Sunday and had expressed a desire to return home temporarily. The authorities noted that her departure was part of her pre-planned leave.

Currently, around 70 students from Bangladesh are enrolled in various programs at NIT Silchar. The controversy has sparked significant debate about the impact of international students on campus and their social media activities.
