BJP has selected Rameswar Teli and Mission Ranjan Das as candidates for Assam’s Rajya Sabha by-election, set for September 3.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Assam. The party has chosen Rameswar Teli and Mission Ranjan Das to contest for the two available seats.
Rameswar Teli is a well-known politician and former MLA from Duliajan. He has previously served as the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term. Currently, he is a Member of Parliament from Dibrugarh.
Mission Ranjan Das is also a prominent figure in Assam politics. He has been elected four times as a legislator from North Karimganj. His extensive experience in state politics makes him a strong contender.
The Rajya Sabha election is set for September 3. These seats became vacant after the 18th Lok Sabha elections, following the departure of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, who previously held these positions.
The BJP’s choice of candidates for Assam reflects its strategy to reinforce its presence in the Rajya Sabha and maintain its influence in the state’s political landscape.
In addition to Assam, the BJP has fielded candidates from other states, including:
- Manan Kumar Mishra from Bihar
- George Kurian from Madhya Pradesh
- Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan
- Rajib Bhattacharjee from Tripura
- Dhairyashil Patil from Maharashtra
- Kiran Choudhary from Haryana
- Mamata Mohanta from Odisha
These selections are part of the BJP’s broader plan to consolidate its presence in the Rajya Sabha by fielding a mix of seasoned politicians and new members who have recently joined the party
