Cachar College Protest Demands Capital Punishment for Doctor Rape

Students at Silchar protest also demand strict action against Assam University professors accused of sexual harassment.

Cachar College students staged a protest in Silchar, demanding capital punishment for the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case.

On Monday, students from Cachar College held a protest at the Khudiram Bose statue on Club Road, Silchar. The protest was in response to the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The students gathered with placards and banners. They demanded justice for the deceased doctor, Moumita Debnath. They also called for capital punishment for the culprits. Slogans like “Hang the rapists, justice for Moumita” echoed through the area.

The protestors observed a two-minute silence to honor the memory of Moumita Debnath. They criticized the authorities of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. The students held them accountable for the incident. They also demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.

The students expressed their disapproval of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement. She offered a ₹10 lakh compensation to Moumita Debnath’s family. The students questioned whether money could bring back the deceased doctor.

During the protest, the students raised concerns about recent sexual harassment allegations. These allegations were against two professors at Assam University. The students demanded strict action against the accused professors.
