Contractual workers at Silchar Medical College protest during CM’s visit, demanding permanent jobs and salary increases after years of temporary employment.
During Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma’s visit to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, over 300 contract workers staged a protest outside the Principal’s office. The workers, who have served in various departments for years, are demanding permanent positions and salary increases.
The workers, earning between ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 per month, are facing deductions when they miss work. Despite repeated requests and protests for permanent employment and better pay, their wages have not been increased, making it difficult for them to support their families.
The protestors hoped that the Chief Minister’s visit would bring attention to their plight. After their demonstration, a delegation met with the Chief Minister, who assured them that he would look into the matter.
