Residents of Silchar will soon benefit from an advanced weather radar designed to improve storm and rain forecasting. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Assam University are collaborating to install this cutting-edge radar at the university campus.
This new radar will enhance weather forecasting for the region by sending out radio waves that bounce off rain, snow, or hail. It then calculates the speed and direction of these weather elements, allowing for more accurate predictions of storms and severe weather.
The upgraded technology will significantly help people in Cachar and nearby areas. With earlier and more precise warnings, residents can take preventive measures to protect themselves and their property. For instance, farmers can safeguard their crops, and people can avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions.
The IMD is also deploying similar radars in other parts of the northeast as part of a broader effort to improve weather forecasting and safety across the region.
