VHP demands Indian citizenship for Hindu refugees fleeing Bangladesh persecution. They urge Delhi to address the violence and ensure refugee safety.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has strongly condemned the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh and demanded that Indian authorities grant citizenship to refugees fleeing from the violence. The VHP plans to submit this demand to the Delhi government, as stated during a press conference held in Silchar on Thursday.
VHP leaders, including Purn Chandra Mondal, the Kshetra Pradhan, Shantanu Nayek the Dakshin-Purba Prant President among others expressed their deep anger over the ongoing atrocities against Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. They highlighted the increasing brutality faced by these communities, including attacks on Hindu temples and individuals.
Purn Chandra Mondal emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that the VHP will request the Indian government to offer citizenship to those who are forced to flee Bangladesh due to religious persecution. He urged the Indian government to keep a close watch on the safety of Hindus and their places of worship in Bangladesh to prevent further damage and suffering.
This move comes as Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to visit India on Monday, prompting heightened concerns and demands for action from the VHP.
