STF intercepts truck in Guwahati, seizes 22,000 foreign cigarette boxes. Four arrested, including driver. Legal action is underway.
The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam has cracked down on illegal cigarette trafficking. Acting on a tip-off, STF intercepted a truck with registration number HR-38/Z-8530 in Amingaon, North Guwahati. The truck was en route from Silchar to Raipur.
During the operation, STF discovered 11 large cartons of foreign cigarettes hidden beneath a furniture consignment. The total haul amounted to 22,000 cigarette boxes, which equals 4,40,000 cigarettes.
The driver of the truck, Parashu Baishya, was arrested on the spot. Based on Baishya’s confession, STF conducted a raid at MR King Godown in Boragaon. During this raid, they apprehended the godown manager, Sahil Dewan, along with two others, Ashique Ikbal and Ajit Saloi.
The STF has initiated the necessary legal proceedings against those involved in this case.
