Train services have been halted on Bhairabi Road due to Dhaleshwari River submerging tracks. Repair efforts struggle to prevent further damage.
Train services on Bhairabi root have been halted for nearly a week as the Dhaleshwari River submerges the railway tracks. This disruption has caused severe inconvenience for passengers traveling to and from Mizoram. Currently, trains are only running between Jamira and Silchar, with service from Jamira to Bhairabi completely suspended.
In the Killarbak village area of Jamira, parts of the railway track have been submerged by the river. A year ago, reports highlighted the river’s erosion causing over a hundred homes in Killarbak to be washed away. Despite ongoing efforts to address the issue, the erosion has now impacted the railway line, with a local mosque also at risk of being submerged.
Local residents believe that if appropriate measures had been taken earlier, the current situation might have been avoided. The railway department is now deploying wagon loads of stones to prevent further damage, but the effectiveness of these repairs remains uncertain as the stones are quickly washed away by the river.
