Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly criticizes West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s threat, asserting Assam will not be intimidated and condemns her divisive rhetoric.
In response to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent threat, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has fired back, condemning her comments. During a rally on Wednesday in Kolkata marking the founding day of the Trinamool Congress’s student wing, Banerjee warned that if BJP creates unrest in West Bengal, Assam would not remain silent, and neither would other states like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Sarma reacted strongly, questioning Banerjee’s audacity to threaten Assam and accusing her of using divisive language. Sarma urged her not to incite conflict and warned against trying to escalate tensions through political failure. He emphasized that Assam and the northeast region will not be intimidated by such threats.
Piyush Hazarika, a minister in Assam, also condemned Banerjee’s remarks, suggesting that her strategy of creating unrest will not work in Assam. He criticized Banerjee for struggling to maintain law and order in her own state and dismissed her attempts to provoke Assam.
Banerjee’s comments also drew criticism from BJP leaders in West Bengal. Sukanta Majumdar, the state BJP president, accused Banerjee of spreading violence and making anti-national statements. He called on the central government to address the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal and criticized Banerjee for not handling major incidents like the Kamduni rape case effectively.
Majumdar also urged vigilance on Banerjee’s interactions with foreign entities and questioned the effectiveness of the state’s judicial processes. He challenged Banerjee to address the allegations of corruption and inefficiency in her administration.
The political exchange highlights the growing tensions between the ruling parties of Assam and West Bengal, reflecting broader regional and national political dynamics.
