Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika visited the Jatinga river in Barkhola, Cachar district, on Saturday to inspect significant erosion issues. The erosion has caused serious damage and poses a threat to a local school and several public properties, leading to growing concerns among residents.
During his visit, Hazarika closely examined the affected areas and met with local residents to understand their concerns. He acknowledged the severity of the situation and assured the community that measures would be taken to address the problem effectively. The minister instructed the departmental engineer to prepare a detailed plan to prevent further erosion along a 2-kilometer stretch of the river.
Hazarika emphasized that the approach would be step-by-step, focusing on immediate actions and long-term solutions to protect the school and public properties from future erosion. He promised that the Water Resources Department would prioritize these repairs and work closely with local officials to ensure the area is safeguarded.
