Silchar is enduring severe power issues, including frequent load shedding and dangerously low voltage levels. Despite APDCL’s recent efforts, such as transitioning to smart meters and introducing a prepaid billing system, these core issues remain unresolved. The intense summer heat has exacerbated the situation, causing significant discomfort and disruption to daily life.
The Assam Electricity Consumers Association’s Cachar District Coordination Committee has urgently sought action. They submitted a memorandum to the CEO of APDCL at the Meherpur office, demanding immediate solutions for the ongoing low voltage and load shedding problems, and calling for an upgrade of outdated electrical equipment.
Residents are growing increasingly frustrated as these issues persist. Sadhan Purkayastha, a delegation member, highlighted recent power outages on National Highway due to transformer failures, which led to public protests. Manas Das reported similar issues on Panchayat Road and Das Colony, while Ranjit Chowdhury and Professor Ajay Roy noted that Malugram faces significant low voltage problems. Champalal Das pointed to ongoing issues on Vivekananda Road.
Despite APDCL’s assurances of receiving twenty-five new transformers and plans to address low voltage problems, the delegation remains skeptical. Faruk Laskar questioned why these concerns persist despite the Chief Minister’s praise for APDCL. The delegation strongly urged immediate and effective action to resolve these critical power issues and alleviate public suffering.
