Northeast Update is an independent digital news publication of Knight Entertainment, established in 2014 to bring reliable, relevant and people-focused journalism from Assam and Northeast India to a wider audience.

Based in Silchar, Assam, Northeast Update reports on matters that affect communities across the region, with particular attention to local developments, public affairs, governance, infrastructure, crime, social issues, politics, business, culture and other matters of public interest.

The publication began in 2014 as a grassroots news initiative focused on local voices and underreported stories. In 2024, Northeast Update expanded its digital presence with the launch of NortheastUpdate.com, developing the platform into a digital-first regional news publication.

Original Reporting and Sources

Northeast Update seeks to add value through original reporting, local context, official statements, interviews, field information, documents, photographs and other verifiable sources.

Where appropriate, our journalists seek information directly from government departments, public officials, law-enforcement agencies, institutions, organisations and people directly connected with a story.

We distinguish between reported facts, official claims, allegations, opinions and analysis. When information cannot be independently verified, we make reasonable efforts to identify the source and present the information with appropriate attribution.

Anupam Mandal is a television producer, broadcast journalist and media professional with more than two decades of experience in journalism and television production.

He established Northeast Update in 2014 with the aim of strengthening local and regional journalism and bringing greater attention to stories and issues affecting communities in Assam and Northeast India.

As Founder and Editor-in-Chief, he oversees the publication’s editorial direction and works to maintain standards of accuracy, responsible reporting and public-interest journalism.
