Assam Conducts First Nationwide War Drill on May 7

Assam Prepares Civilians for War Scenario

Assam will host India’s first nationwide war drill since 1971. The exercise will test air raid sirens, blackout plans, and civilian evacuation strategies.

Assam is set to conduct India’s first nationwide war drill since 1971 on May 7, 2025. The exercise will include air raid sirens, blackout simulations, and evacuation drills to strengthen civil defense preparedness.

The drill, ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, will take place in 27 locations across Assam, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Tinsukia. The activities aim to train civilians in responding to hostile attacks and improve critical infrastructure protection.

Government officials confirmed that the drill will involve testing communication links with the Indian Air Force, establishing emergency control rooms, and camouflaging key installations. The exercise will also focus on blackout measures, where entire cities will cut off power to prevent detection by enemy aircraft.

Civilians are encouraged to participate in the training sessions on evacuation plans and bunker safety. Schools, colleges, and public institutions will receive guidelines on emergency response. The government hopes the exercise will help identify weaknesses in the current defense system and improve nationwide preparedness.

This drill follows rising geopolitical tensions and aims to ensure India’s readiness in crisis situations. Authorities are urging citizens to stay informed and cooperate fully during the exercise.
