With the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections in sight, Amiya Kanti Das, a key BJP ticket aspirant for the Dholai constituency, has significantly ramped up his public relations campaign. On Sunday, accompanied by a large number of supporters, he visited shops and interacted with businessmen and general public in the Dholai market area.
Focus on Development and Party Support
During his outreach, Amiya Kanti Das highlighted the success of various pro-people schemes launched by the Central and State BJP governments. He appealed to the public to support the party in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to the media, he stated:
“I wish to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from the Dholai centre. I have already applied for a ticket to the party high command. Simultaneously, I am working to establish regular contact with the people in the area.”
Supporters Strongly Endorse Local Candidate
Mr. Das’s supporters strongly advocated for his candidacy, stressing that as a local resident (Bhumiputra) of Dholai, he is the most qualified candidate. They are strongly urging the BJP to grant him the ticket, asserting that he will secure an easy victory and play a crucial role in the area’s development.
The Growing Demand for Amiya Kanti Das
The demand for Amiya Kanti Das to be nominated for the Dholai seat is rapidly gaining traction. BJP workers and supporters from various parts of Dholai are pushing for him to be selected as the local and most capable candidate for the 2026 polls.
Party officials noted that while Mr. Das was recommended for the by-election, he did not receive the party ticket then. Despite this, no one expressed any dissent or anger against the party, maintaining the principle: “The BJP flag is our identity. The party is supreme, not the individual.”
Warning on Candidate Selection
However, officials pointed out a potential challenge, noting that in the last by-election, the BJP candidate won by a narrow margin of only seven to eight thousand votes. In contrast, in the past, BJP candidates have secured victories in Dholai by margins exceeding 30,000 to 40,000 votes.
They highlighted that in the subsequent Panchayat elections, the BJP’s lead in Dholai was over 50,000 votes. This indicates that failing to nominate a locally accepted and popular candidate could put the BJP at risk in the upcoming general election.
The workers emphasized that they have been strengthening the organization in Dholai for a long time, adhering to the guidelines of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. They believe that with Amiya Kanti Das’s widespread local popularity and his long-standing work to consolidate the organization, the BJP will secure a record victory in the Dholai seat if he is nominated.
