Development Failure: West Dhalai Villagers Threaten Election Boycott Over Decades of Dilapidated Roads

Date:

Residents of Baluchuri, Nagathal, and Ikorathal Forest Villages, located under the Borjalenga Block of West Dhalai, have expressed intense frustration and anger over the chronic failure to construct or repair their essential road networks. Despite persistent pleas and memorandums submitted to departmental officials, the road infrastructure remains in a severely dilapidated condition, leading to a host of community hardships.

The total population across the four villages, estimated at approximately 5,000 people, is directly impacted by the negligence.

Life Disrupted by Poor Infrastructure
Villagers report that the appalling state of the road has disrupted almost every aspect of their daily lives:

  • Education: Students face immense difficulty commuting to schools and colleges.
  • Healthcare: Transporting sick patients and medical emergencies is fraught with challenges.
  • Economy: Farmers struggle to transport agricultural produce to markets, severely impacting their livelihoods.
  • Public Services: The community is being deprived of various government services due to the inaccessibility caused by the poor roads.

Ultimatum to the Government
Stating that years of appeals to the administration have fallen on deaf ears, the villagers have now issued a stark warning through the media to the state government and the administration:

If the road is not constructed or promptly renovated, the residents of Baluchuri, Nagathal, and Ikorathal will collectively boycott the upcoming elections.

The community is demanding immediate action from the authorities to ensure the swift repair or construction of the road to alleviate their prolonged suffering.
