Guwahati, Assam | Signaling an early and aggressive start to the 2026 electoral battle, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) statewide wall painting campaign on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The Chief Minister initiated the drive at Khanapara Kendriya Vidyalaya, where he personally painted the party’s lotus symbol. The campaign aims to cover every district in the state within a strict timeframe, focusing on a direct-to-voter messaging strategy.
“Lotus to Bloom on Every Wall”
Addressing the media during the launch, CM Sarma stated that the initiative is designed to highlight the “double-engine” government’s progress over the last decade. Unlike traditional advertising, the Chief Minister emphasized a consent-based approach.
“We will seek prior permission from property owners before painting. This process itself acts as a massive outreach program, allowing our workers to engage directly with citizens at their doorsteps,” Sarma said.
Core Themes and Slogans
The murals feature slogans that reflect the BJP’s core planks for the upcoming polls, ranging from identity politics to economic welfare. The primary slogans include:
- Cultural Security: “For the Protection of Civilisation, Culture and Life — BJP Govt Once Again”
- Land Rights: “To Safeguard Our Land and Our Rights — BJP Govt Once Again”
- Women’s Welfare: “For Women’s Economic Empowerment — BJP Govt Once Again”
- Safety: “Assam’s Security: BJP’s Pledge”
Strategic Preparedness for 2026
The launch comes at a time when the BJP claims to be ahead of its rivals in organizational readiness. Sarma asserted that the party is “battle-ready,” suggesting that if the central leadership requested, the state unit could release a list of candidates for 50 of the 126 assembly seats immediately.
Key Political Developments:
- Seat-Sharing: Negotiations with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and partners in the Bodoland region (UPPL) are underway, with finalization expected by February 15, 2026.
- Alliance Strategy: The BJP-led alliance is projected to contest strongly in at least 103 seats.
- Opposition Critique: The CM took the opportunity to criticize the Congress party, alleging they were collecting “fees” from ticket aspirants, whereas the BJP relies on worker suggestions.
The 2026 Assam Assembly elections are expected to take place in March–April, and this wall-writing campaign marks the transition of the political atmosphere into high-gear election mode.
