Massive Boost to Security: Assam Inducts 5,818 Youth into Police and Home Departments

Date:

GUWAHATI – Taking another monumental step towards a stronger and more secure Assam, the State Government today inducted 5,818 dedicated youth into the Assam Police and various directorates under the Home Department. This significant recruitment drive not only fortifies the state’s security apparatus but also marks a major milestone in the government’s commitment to transparent and merit-based hiring.

With the distribution of appointment letters to these 5,818 candidates, the total number of transparent, merit-based government jobs provided by the current administration since 2021 has soared to 1,41,194.

A Testament to Merit and Transparency
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that the recruitment process reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, institutional strengthening, and public service. He highlighted the radical shift from earlier practices, where police jobs were often secured through influential connections or bribes.

“Earlier, applicants needed influential connections or money to secure police jobs. Now in Assam, hard work and study help candidates earn government jobs. This change is the foundation of a new Assam,” CM Sarma stated.

The appointments cover various roles, including Sub-Inspector (SI), Constable (AB/UB), and Grade-IV positions across the Assam Police, APRO, Fire and Emergency Services, Prisons, and other directorates.

Strengthening the Force and Upholding Integrity
The induction of over 5,800 new personnel is expected to make the Assam Police an “even stronger & people-friendly force.”

The Chief Minister advised the new recruits, who gained their positions without paying bribes, to reject corruption throughout their service. He noted proudly that no corruption complaints have emerged against recruits in the past five years, a record the government is determined to maintain.

Key Achievements and Future Outlook:

  • Total Jobs Since 2021: 1,41,194 (via transparent, merit-based selection).
  • Crime Reduction: CM Sarma highlighted that decisive steps have significantly reduced crime in Assam, with registered cases dropping dramatically from 1.21 lakh in 2020 to 50,000 in 2024.
  • Future Jobs: The Chief Minister also announced that advertisements for 5,000 new constable posts will appear very soon, underscoring the continuous efforts to generate employment opportunities for the state’s youth.

The government’s strategy of filling vacant posts annually across key departments like police, education, and health ensures that critical manpower gaps do not remain open for long, paving the way for a more efficient administration and service delivery.
