Land Feud Violence: Katigorah Police Arrest Two Accused in Bloody Nij Phulbari Clash

Date:

Katigorah Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a violent land dispute clash that occurred in the Nij Phulbari 2nd Part area last Sunday. The brutal conflict, which erupted over the harvesting of paddy on a disputed plot, left seven people severely injured, including three women.

Police sources confirmed the arrest of Chhabir Hussain Choudhury and Amjad Hussain Choudhury from the Buribail 3rd Part area on Wednesday night. Chhabir Hussain Choudhury was produced before the court, while Amjad Hussain Choudhury was admitted to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) due to illness.

Clash Over Disputed Land
The violence stemmed from a long-running land feud between local resident Siraj Uddin Borbhuiya and his neighbour, Altaf Hossain Borbhuiya. The dispute is currently pending in court.

On Sunday morning, the situation escalated when Altaf Hossain and his group attempted to harvest the paddy from the contested land. When Siraj Uddin and his family tried to intervene, Altaf Hossain, Zainul Ahmed, Nur Ahmad, and others allegedly launched a brutal attack on Siraj Uddin and his family.

Victim Family Demands Security
Following the arrests, the victim family, represented by Rukshana Begum, voiced fresh concerns about their safety. She alleged that suspicious movement by unknown people around their house has begun since the accused were detained. Fearing another potential attack, she has urgently appealed to the police to ensure their continuous security.

The injured, including Siraj Uddin Borbhuiya, Mujibul Alam Laskar, and Alim Uddin Laskar, sustained grievous injuries, with three individuals requiring transfer to SMCH due to their critical condition.

Based on a written complaint filed by Siraj Uddin’s wife, Roytun Nessa Borbhuiya, against Altaf Hossain Borbhuiya and 14 others, Katigorah Police registered a case. The arrests of the two accused mark the first concrete action in the ongoing investigation. The incident has caused extreme tension in the area, and locals are demanding a swift resolution to the land dispute to prevent future bloodshed.
