Unbelievable! Thieves Target Police Station in Cachar; One Arrested for Attempted Theft of Seized Burmese Betel Nuts

Astonishing Incident: Cachar Police Station Attacked Twice for Seized Burmese Betel Nuts

In a truly astonishing incident that has raised serious questions about security, the Katigorah Police Station in Assam’s Cachar district became the target of thieves—not once, but twice in a single night. The audacious target of the theft was a large consignment of seized Burmese betel nuts (supari) stored within the police station premises.

Fortunately, quick action by the duty-bound police personnel led to the successful apprehension of one of the culprits.

The Audacious Target: Seized Betel Nuts
Cachar Police had recently confiscated a significant quantity of illegal Burmese betel nuts during an operation and stored the valuable consignment within the Katigorah Police Station compound. It is this high-value seized contraband that appears to have tempted the gang of thieves.

  • Target Location: Katigorah Police Station, Cachar District, Assam.
  • Stolen Item (Attempted): Seized Burmese Betel Nuts (Supari)
  • The Motive: The high market value associated with the illegal betel nut trade.

Double Attempt Foiled in the Dead of Night
According to sources, the gang of thieves launched their attempt around 2:30 AM on the night of the incident.

  • First Attempt: The thieves initially failed in their attempt to breach the premises and retreated.
  • Second Attempt: Undeterred, the gang reportedly returned half an hour later for a second, more determined attempt.
  • Apprehension: As the thieves entered the police station compound during the second attempt, the vigilant police personnel on duty sensed the intrusion. They immediately sprung into action, successfully managing to apprehend one thief. The remaining members of the gang managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness.

Accused Identified
The arrested thief has been identified as Jahid Hussain, a resident of the Jalalpur area of Katigorah. He is currently being interrogated by the police, who are actively searching for his absconding accomplices.

Public Questions Security
The incident has sparked widespread discussion and concern across the locality. Local residents are questioning the state of public safety when even a police station is not safe from thieves. The general sentiment is summed up by the question on everyone’s mind:

“If thieves dare to target a Police Station, where is the safety for the common man?”

Cachar Police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter and assured the public that necessary steps are being taken to strengthen security and track down the remaining members of the betel nut smuggling/theft ring.
