Assam Boosts Early Childhood Education: Cachar Launches 6-Month ECCE Course for Anganwadi Workers

Minister Kaushik Rai Inaugurates NEP 2020 Training for Barak Valley Workers
CACHAR, ASSAM – The Cachar District Administration has officially launched a crucial six-month Certificate Course on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), marking a significant step towards strengthening pre-primary education in Assam under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The training program for Anganwadi workers, a collaborative effort between the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) and Assam SCERT, was formally inaugurated on Monday at the Lakhipur Multipurpose Hall. The ceremony was led by the Honorable Minister for Food, Public Distribution, Consumer Affairs, Mineral & Mineral Resources, and Development of Barak Valley, Kaushik Rai.

🗣️ Minister Roy Hails ECCE as ‘Historic Step’
Minister Kaushik Rai addressed the gathering, emphasizing the transformative potential of the ECCE initiative. He stated, “The ECCE scheme is a historic step toward strengthening the foundation of quality pre-primary education in Assam.”

The Minister highlighted the critical role of the six-month training:

  • He noted that the course is crucial for skill enhancement and empowerment of Anganwadi workers.
  • He stressed that the 3–6 year period is the most crucial phase for a child’s mental, intellectual, and behavioral development.
  • He expressed hope that this training initiative would bring pioneering change in improving the quality of early education and securing a brighter future for children.
  • Minister Rai also commended the Cachar District Administration for its proactive role in implementing the project across the Barak Valley.

🎓 Training Scope and Participation
The training program is designed to equip Anganwadi workers with the necessary skills to effectively handle the foundational stage of a child’s learning journey.

According to officials from the WCD Department, a total of 11,090 Anganwadi workers have already been included in the ECCE training across 16 districts of Assam. With the launch in the Barak Valley, workers from Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj districts will now come under the training umbrella.

For the Lakhipur center (under Center No. 67), a total of approximately 194 Anganwadi workers from Lakhipur, Baskandi, Binnakandi, and Rajabazar ICDS projects will participate.

Key Curriculum Focus:

  • Pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills.
  • Effective classroom management.
  • Practical early learning activities for children aged 3–6 years.

The program integrates classroom-based training, internships, and hands-on pre-learning activities.

Administrative Presence
The inauguration was attended by several key officials, including Phillis Hrangchal, Additional District Commissioner of Cachar; Anjali Kumari, Officer-in-Charge of the Social Welfare Department; Raushanur Rahman, BDO; Dr. Divyajyoti Bhattacharya, SDMO; and various education and health department officials.

The launch marks the beginning of a cohesive capacity-building action plan by the Cachar District Administration to accelerate pre-primary education development and transform grassroots childhood education in the region.
