High tension prevailed in the Jorongdisa Am Tila area of Lamding, a village situated near the Lanka subdivision in Nagaon district, today after a group of workers and leaders affiliated with the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal and the International Hindu Parishad allegedly vandalized and ransacked an illegal madrasa operating in a private residence.
The incident occurred while religious lessons were reportedly underway at the site. The Bajrang Dal activists reportedly confronted the teacher and students, raising immediate objections to the institution’s operation.
The madrasa was allegedly running out of the private residence of Jahad Ali in Jorongdisa Am Tila. The teacher, identified as Selim Uddin, was reportedly instructing approximately 12 students at the time of the confrontation.
Allegations of ‘Jihadi’ Teachings
Bajrang Dal leader Amit Pal, who spearheaded the operation, alleged that the madrasa was involved in conducting “Jihadi” teachings. The Bajrang Dal group took action to disrupt the lessons based on these serious claims.
The situation escalated quickly, prompting the intervention of the Lamding Police, who rushed to the scene to bring the volatile situation under control. Crucially, the Lamding Police detained the madrasa teacher, Selim Uddin, and transported him to the police station for further questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Mosque Committee Issues Direct Order
Following the disruption, community leaders were quick to respond. Ala Uddin Laskar, President of the Masjid Committee located in Itabhati Chariyali, issued a strong statement regarding the unauthorized religious school.
Laskar stated clearly that no madrasa operating in a manner that “harms the sentiments of the Hindu religion” would be permitted to run. He further issued a direct instruction that the madrasa operating in Jorongdisa Am Tila must cease its activities immediately.
In the aftermath of the tension, the investigation into the allegations regarding the illegal status of the institution and the claims made by the Bajrang Dal is ongoing to ensure peace is maintained in the area.
