Fake Currency Racket Shocks Assam–Mizoram Border

Youth caught with ₹1.5 lakh in counterfeit notes in Bhaga Bazar triggers police investigation

A fake currency racket has come to light in Bhaga Bazar, a town near the Assam–Mizoram border in Cachar district. The shocking discovery has alarmed residents who now fear falling victim to the spreading scam.

Locals recently detained a 22-year-old youth with ₹1.5 lakh worth of fake currency. The accused, identified as Mahmudul Hasan Laskar, son of Komrul Haque Laskar, hails from Jamalpur village. He reportedly tried to repay a loan using counterfeit notes, triggering suspicion.

Soon after, villagers alerted the police. Officers rushed to Jamalpur and seized the fake currency before taking the youth into custody. Investigators are now interrogating him to uncover the source of the fake notes.

Residents allege that Bhaga Bazar has become a hotspot for counterfeit dealings. The racket appears to target simple, unsuspecting locals, and even people from neighboring Mizoram are falling prey to fake transactions.

Several names have surfaced in connection with the racket. Locals pointed fingers at Hasan Laskar, Enamul Laskar, and Aslam Uddin Laskar, accusing them of playing active roles in distributing fake currency in the area. These claims have raised public demands for a full investigation.

Community leaders are urging the Assam Chief Minister and Cachar district’s Superintendent of Police to step in and take strict action. With rising public concern, they stress the need for greater vigilance and smarter financial dealings to avoid further deception.

The fake currency racket has not only disturbed the peace in Bhaga Bazar but also triggered fear across the border. As authorities dig deeper, locals hope for swift justice and a crackdown on the fraudulent network.
