Train services on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section were suspended from the evening of Monday, June 23, 2025, following a serious incident in the New Haflong–Jatinga Lampur section. Boulders and landmass fell onto the railway track due to improper road repair work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The repair activity caused a slope failure between the road and the railway line. The land bulged outward and slid toward the tracks, while water from the road flowed directly onto the railway line, worsening the situation. Considering the unsafe condition, railway authorities suspended operations between Lumding, New Haflong, and Badarpur.
This suspension has affected many long-distance and regional trains, resulting in cancellations, short terminations, and rescheduling.

The Northeast Frontier Railway has requested the NHAI to take urgent steps to protect the area, deploy manpower and machinery, and prevent further damage. The affected section is crucial for linking Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and the Barak Valley to the rest of the country.
Lumding-Badarpur train services will resume only after clearance and complete safety verification. Passengers are advised to stay updated and plan accordingly.
