Silchar, Assam: In a determined effort to tackle burgeoning urban traffic congestion and enhance pedestrian safety, the Cachar District Administration has successfully executed focused enforcement drives across two critical corridors in Silchar.
The operations involved a cohesive collaboration between the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Cachar Police, and the District Transport Office (DTO), Cachar.
Targeting Key Congestion Points
The enforcement action was strategically divided, targeting high-traffic zones near vital civic amenities:
- SMCH to Meherpur: The first drive covered the stretch between Silchar Medical College And Hospital (SMCH) and Meherpur/Impulse Diagnostic. This area is prone to congestion due to high footfall around the major hospital.
- Silchar Polytechnic to Argya Hospital: The second drive focused on the corridor running from Silchar Polytechnic to Argya Hospital, another area where safety and smooth traffic flow are paramount due to the presence of both educational and healthcare facilities.
Unified Strategy and Enforcement Actions
The objectives and execution for both drives were identical, demonstrating a unified approach to traffic management:
- Enforcement: Joint teams from the participating agencies patrolled the specified routes, immediately taking action against and penalizing vehicles found in violation of improper parking rules.
- Deterrence: To ensure long-term compliance, new, official ‘No Parking’ sign boards were strategically installed in critical spots along both routes, clearly communicating restrictions to the public.
- Safety Focus: The overall goal remains to enhance pedestrian safety and guarantee smooth traffic flow, which is vital for the efficient operation of surrounding institutions, especially hospitals.
Leadership and Inter-Departmental Cooperation
The success of the back-to-back operations hinged on inter-departmental cooperation, spearheaded by key officials including Shri Ashish Unhale Vidyadhar, IAS, and Shri Santanu Das, I/C Traffic Br. (Cachar Police), along with personnel from the DTO and SMC.
Essential logistical support and area management were provided by officials from the Silchar Municipal Corporation and the Shrishti Waste Management team.
This continuous joint initiative underscores the resolve of the Cachar authorities to enforce traffic regulations and maintain public order in Silchar’s busiest areas.
