SILCHAR, ASSAM – Cachar Police have achieved a significant breakthrough against the drug trade, successfully seizing a massive consignment of banned Codeine-based cough syrup at the Kalainchara Toll Gate on the Assam-Meghalaya border early Tuesday morning. The operation resulted in the recovery of 4,380 bottles of the contraband, estimated to be worth over ₹5 lakh (Five lakh Indian Rupees) on the black market.

The seizure was made by Gumra Police at the routine police naka check post situated at the Ka
Vehicle Involved: A lorry bearing registration number AS 1MC 0872.
- Contraband: 4,380 bottles of banned Codeine cough syrup packed into 43 cartons.
- Smuggling Route: The consignment originated from Meghalaya and was being smuggled through National Highway 6 (NH 6) in Cachar, attempting to reach Tripura.
- Concealment: The cough syrup cartons were meticulously hidden behind other legitimate goods inside the lorry to evade inspection.
- Arrest: The truck driver, identified as Rahul Das, a resident of Silchar, was immediately detained and taken into police custody.
