Silchar, Assam | In a massive blow to the illegal narcotics trade, Cachar Police successfully dismantled an inter-state drug smuggling syndicate operating out of Ganguly village in the Kuchudorm area. During a high-stakes raid conducted on Friday afternoon, security forces seized a substantial quantity of suspected morphine and apprehended three key suspects, including the mastermind.
The Raid and Recovery
Acting on precise intelligence regarding the storage of contraband, a large contingent of Cachar Police cordoned off the residence of Moinul Haque Laskar (53) in Ganguly village (Kuchudorm Part IV) around 3:00 PM. Following a rigorous two-hour search operation, police recovered 1.357 kg of morphine. The substance was verified using a drug testing kit, which returned a positive result for narcotics.
Arrests and Identification
Police arrested three individuals on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses:
- Moinul Haque Laskar (53): The homeowner and primary suspect.
- Ruhul Amin Laskar (42): A resident of Banskandi, Lakhipur.
- Sirajul Haque Laskar (37): Also a resident of Banskandi.
The Manipur-Cachar Nexus
Investigation reveals a sophisticated operation involving family members. Sources indicate that Moinul’s wife, a resident of Manipur, allegedly sourced heroin and morphine from the neighboring state and brought them to their Cachar residence.
Moinul, a truck driver by profession, allegedly exploited his job to transport these illegal consignments to Mizoram, Nagaland, and other parts of the Northeast. The two individuals from Banskandi were reportedly at the residence to facilitate a transaction when the police closed in.
Legal Action and Public Reaction
The trio has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are now investigating the “forward and backward linkages” to identify other members of this cross-border cartel.
The news of the arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, as many were unaware of Moinul’s illicit activities behind his facade as a driver. Residents have lauded the Cachar Police for their swift action in curbing the drug menace in the region.
