Silchar, Cachar | Continuing their relentless “War on Drugs,” Cachar Police achieved another significant breakthrough on Tuesday by seizing a massive consignment of Yaba tablets at the Assam-Manipur border. A woman from Manipur’s Tamenglong district was arrested in the operation at Jirighat, with narcotics worth over ₹1 Crore in her possession.
The Jirighat Operation
Acting on precise intelligence regarding a drug courier traveling from Manipur, a police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Partha Pratim Das and Additional SP Subrata Sen intercepted a woman near the Jirighat area.
The suspect, identified as Rahenliu, a resident of the Tamenglong district in Manipur, was found carrying a large quantity of suspected Yaba tablets. Upon weighing the contraband, officials confirmed it to be 2.15 kg, consisting of approximately 20,000 Yaba tablets.
Guwahati Connection and Market Value
According to police sources, the consignment was being smuggled from Manipur and was destined for Guwahati. The estimated market value of the seized psychotropic substances is expected to exceed ₹1 Crore.
“Our investigation is active. We are working to establish the forward and backward linkages of this shipment to identify the kingpins operating from Tamenglong and the intended receivers in Guwahati,” stated SSP Partha Pratim Das.
Persistent Crackdown
This seizure comes within 24 hours of another major bust where Cachar Police recovered heroin worth ₹2 Crores. The strategic location of Cachar as a transit point for drugs entering from Mizoram and Manipur has prompted the district police to intensify vigilance at border outposts like Jirighat and Sonabaighat.
