High Alert in Silchar: Cachar Police Deploy Dog Squads, Intensify Vehicle Checks After Delhi Blast

Cachar Police Deploy Dog Squads at Premtola Point; Silchar On Edge Amid Nationwide Security Clampdown

In a swift and comprehensive response to the high-intensity car blast near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi, the security apparatus in Assam’s Barak Valley has been immediately activated. Cachar Police and the Silchar Sadar Police have significantly ramped up vigilance, deploying specialized units to strategic locations across the city.

The enhanced security measures, which are a direct consequence of the national high alert, aim to prevent any possible attempts to disrupt peace or exploit the situation in the sensitive Cachar district, which borders Bangladesh and has long been a key point in regional security.

Premtola Point Becomes Fortress: Focus on Vehicle Screening
The most visible measure has been the intensified naka checking and patrol operations launched across Silchar.

  • Dog Squad Deployment: Cachar Police deployed a police dog squad at crucial intersections, including Premtola Point, a major traffic hub for vehicles entering and leaving Silchar City. The dogs are being used for detailed, swift checks of luggage, parcels, and vehicle compartments for explosives, arms, or narcotics.
  • Presence of Authority: The operations are being conducted in the presence of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Silchar Sadar Police Station, underscoring the seriousness of the directive.
  • Vehicle Vetting: Every suspicious vehicle, including auto-rickshaws, private cars, and commercial trucks, is being thoroughly screened. This proactive stance is essential given the Delhi blast involved a Vehicle-Borne IED (VBIED).

Silchar’s Strategic Vulnerability
While the main terror investigation is focused on the Delhi-NCR-J&K axis, Silchar and the Cachar district remain critical from a security standpoint for the following reasons:

  • International Border Proximity: Cachar’s location near the Indo-Bangladesh border makes it a highly sensitive zone vulnerable to infiltration and the smuggling of contraband, arms, and—crucially—explosive precursors.
  • Logistics Hub: Silchar serves as a major logistical and transportation hub for the entire Barak Valley and parts of the neighboring states of Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Any disruption here could paralyze the economic lifeline of the region.

The Northeast on High Alert
Following the terror advisory, the focus across the Northeast is on preventing the exploitation of vulnerable spots by radical elements. This action in Silchar mirrors heightened security at major transport hubs, including Guwahati Railway Station and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati).

Assam Police officials have urged the public to cooperate fully with the checking personnel and immediately report any suspicious objects or persons to the nearest police station, ensuring the Northeast remains secure during the national security challenge.
