Silchar, Assam – A significant operation by the 147 BN CRPF, based in Kashipur, Silchar, led to the seizure of a massive consignment of illegal poppy seeds being transported from Silchar towards Guwahati.
Acting on a tip-off, the CRPF forces intercepted a Bolero container van bearing registration number AS-11FC 1420 on Tuesday morning. The interception occurred at approximately 11:00 AM at the Bharat Petroleum pump in Japirbond Part II, as the vehicle was refueling.
The Seizure and Arrests
In a swift and coordinated move, the CRPF apprehended the container along with two youths. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a hidden compartment containing 29 sacks of poppy seeds.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Khairul Islam Laskar, son of Abdul Goni Laskar, a resident of Bhaga Bazar, Jamalpur, Dholai.
- Asifur Rahman Barbhuiya.
Following the initial interception, the Bolero van was transported to the Borkhola Toll Gate. Here, a joint operation involving the Udharbond and Borkhola police stations ensured the complete confiscation of the poppy seeds and the full detention of the driver and his accomplice.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Response
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that regular checking has been intensified along the Silchar-Guwahati route to curb such illegal transportation activities.
The police have launched a full-scale investigation to track down others involved in the illegal trafficking network. Local residents have praised the swift action by the security forces, expressing hope for a stringent crackdown on the illicit poppy business.
In an official statement, the police reaffirmed their commitment, saying they would take strict action to deter such activities in the future and called upon the public to adhere to legal regulations.
