Healthcare at the Doorstep: Sonai Mega Health Camp Registers Over 3,600 Patients in Cachar

Date:

In a massive display of the state government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare, a LAC-wide Mega Health Camp was successfully organized at Swadhinbazar High School within the Sonai Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), Cachar. The event, held under the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency, saw an overwhelming registration of 3,641 patients, bringing essential medical services directly to thousands of local residents.

The initiative is part of the state-wide health thrust, often operating under the National Health Mission’s (NHM) flagship programs like Susrusha Setu, and is inspired by the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji. Their dedication to transforming Assam’s health sector and ensuring inclusive development continues to drive such critical outreach efforts across the state.

Massive Turnout and Specialized Care Impact
The Mega Health Camp in Sonai recorded exceptional public participation, highlighting the urgent need for accessible medical services in rural areas.

  • Registration: A total of 3,641 patients registered for free consultations, screenings, and treatments across various medical disciplines.
  • Referrals: Following expert medical assessments, 414 individuals were identified with conditions requiring advanced intervention and were referred for further specialized care. This crucial step ensures that vulnerable patients receive continued treatment at higher-level medical centers.
  • Services: The camps typically provide a range of services, including specialist consultations (often covering pediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, and general medicine), diagnostic tests, and distribution of free medicines, with a special focus on screening children aged 0-18 for various diseases.

Dignitaries Praise Dedication of Health Workers
The event underscored the seamless coordination between the administrative machinery and the health department. Several distinguished guests attended and lauded the effort of the frontline staff.

  • Hon’ble MP Parimal Suklabaidya (Silchar Lok Sabha) and Hon’ble MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya (Sonai LAC) graced the occasion, interacting directly with doctors, health workers, and patients.
  • The Cachar District Administration was represented by Shri Mridul Kumar Yadav, IAS, District Commissioner, and Smti. Deepa Das, ACS, Branch Officer (Health).
  • The medical team was led by Dr. Shibananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar, and Dr. Eijaz Ahmed Laskar, SDM&HO, Sonai BPHC.

Their presence, alongside officials like Shri Rahul Ghosh, DPM, NHM, Cachar, recognized the commitment of the staff whose “enthusiasm and commitment to public service were truly commendable,” ensuring the camp’s success in delivering vital healthcare to the community.
