Sonai, Assam: A cloud of suspicion hangs over the death of Rafiq Uddin Laskar (54), also known as “Mona Master,” the headmaster of Saidpur 782 LP School and a resident of Saidpur Part V in Sonai, Cachar district. Laskar passed away mysteriously at a private hospital in Silchar on Friday night, leading his family to allege he was murdered.
Laskar is survived by his parents, wife, one son, two daughters, and numerous relatives. His burial was conducted on Saturday evening at the Charkisaha Mokam ground following the Janaza (funeral prayer).
Family Claims Planned Poisoning
Immediately following the burial, Laskar’s father, sister, and other relatives addressed the media at his residence, leveling serious allegations that Rafiq Uddin was poisoned in a planned murder.
Laskar’s father claimed the family was kept in the dark about his son’s condition. “We were not informed at all. We did not even receive news that he was sick. His wife admitted him to the hospital on Wednesday without telling us,” he stated.
Upon receiving the news on Friday afternoon and rushing to the hospital, the father found Rafiq in the ICU. After failing to get clear information from his daughter-in-law and grandson, he consulted the doctor. He claims the physician informed him that Rafiq Uddin had consumed poisonous insecticide.
Based on this information, the family immediately lodged a verbal complaint at the Rangirkhari Police Station on Friday night.
Police Await Autopsy Report
Laskar’s sister, Rosna Begum Barbhuiya, along with cousins Rebul Hossain Choudhury and Komrul Islam Laskar, emphatically stated, “This was not suicide. He was deliberately poisoned and murdered.”
To ascertain the exact cause of death, the body was subjected to a post-mortem examination on Saturday in the presence of the District Police and supervised by a Magistrate.
Police have already launched a formal investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the incident. Sources indicate that the true cause of death will only be clarified once the official autopsy report is received.
