New Kachudaram Police Station Building Launched Under Moitri Scheme in Assam’s Cachar

Sonai, Cachar: The Assam government has initiated construction of a new building for Kachudaram Police Station in Cachar district, marking another step toward modernising police infrastructure. The foundation stone was laid on Monday under the ‘Moitri’ scheme, with an approved cost of around ₹2.90 crore.

The ceremony was attended by Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, along with elected representatives and senior officials.

What is the Moitri scheme and why does it matter?

The new police station building is being constructed under ‘Moitri’ (Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image), a state initiative aimed at improving police infrastructure and public-facing services.

Officials said the upgraded facility is expected to enhance responsiveness, professionalism, and accessibility of policing for residents across the wider Sonai region.

Who attended the foundation stone ceremony?

Sonai MLA and minister Kaushik Rai participated in the programme and highlighted the importance of modern police facilities. Also present were Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, MLAs Karim Uddin Barbhuiya and Nihar Ranjan Das.

Senior officials including Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, BJP district president Rupam Saha, retired officer Kripanarayan Roy, and other local dignitaries attended the event.

Minister highlights police reforms under current government

Speaking on the occasion, Pijush Hazarika said he was pleased to lay the foundation stone of the new Kachudaram Police Station building in Cachar district. He expressed confidence that the facility would significantly improve public service delivery in the area.

The minister credited Assam Police’s transformation over recent years to the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, citing increased professionalism, dedication, and stronger public engagement.

How will the new police station help local residents?

According to officials, the new building will provide better working conditions for police personnel and a more citizen-friendly environment for visitors. Improved infrastructure is expected to strengthen law enforcement capacity and trust between police and the public.

Residents of the Sonai constituency are likely to benefit from faster response times and more effective policing once the project is completed.

Conclusion

The launch of the Kachudaram Police Station building under the Maithri scheme reflects Assam’s continued focus on police reforms and infrastructure development. With an investment of nearly ₹2.9 crore, the project aims to deliver more responsive and people-centric policing in Cachar district.
