The situation in Suprakandi, Sri Bhumi district, turned volatile today following a fatal update to a morning road accident. The national highway connecting Assam and Tripura (NH-8) has been blocked by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in a massive protest after one of the injured students succumbed to his injuries.
Five students were injured this morning when a truck hit them. Tragically, Sanjay Roy, one of the injured students, died while undergoing treatment in the hospital. News of his death quickly spread, inciting outrage among students, particularly those from the Palli Mangal Higher Secondary School.
Highway Paralysed by Student Protest
The protest commenced around 2:00 PM today, with agitated students and members of the ABVP blocking National Highway 8 (NH-8). The spontaneous road blockade has severely disrupted traffic flow on the crucial Assam-Tripura link, as demonstrators demand strict action and justice following the student’s death.

The morning accident involved a truck bearing registration number AS 01 LC 0532, which collided with the group. The injured students included two girls, Priya Shukla Baidya and Jali Namasudra, and three boys: Sourav Namasudra, Samrat Roy, and the deceased, Sanjay Roy.
Police personnel have rushed to the scene to manage the heated situation, negotiate with the protestors, and attempt to clear the vital national highway. The death of Sanjay Roy has escalated the situation from a road accident to a major law and order concern in the Suprakandi area.
