In a major breakthrough against corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (CM’s Vigilance Cell) successfully apprehended Madhab Saha, the Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO) of Udharband, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe on Tuesday evening.
Saha was caught red-handed accepting money from a local teacher, in an operation that underscores the government’s intensified drive against graft in administrative departments.
The Bribe for Post Upgradation
According to sources, the Udharband BEEO had been pressuring a teacher to pay a sum of money in exchange for expediting crucial departmental work.
The teacher was seeking an upgradation of their post from Lower Primary (LP) to High School. While the bureaucratic process typically requires about two months to transfer necessary documents from the Block to the school authorities, Saha demanded payment to ensure the documents were processed swiftly, thereby guaranteeing the teacher’s salary was not suspended during the waiting period.

- Settled Amount: ₹7,000
The CM Vigilance team laid a trap based on the teacher’s complaint. Saha was caught in the act of accepting the agreed-upon ₹7,000 bribe.
Official Action & Investigation Underway
The arrest of the Block Elementary Education Officer has sent ripples through the Udharband and Cachar district administrative circles. The action is part of a continuous effort by the CM’s Vigilance Cell to root out corruption from the grassroots level of governance.
