Cachar Police have arrested a man on charges of sexually assaulting and allegedly impregnating his minor daughter, following a harrowing two-year ordeal detailed in the victim’s complaint. The accused, who had been absconding to evade arrest, was finally apprehended on Monday night.
The accused has been identified as Samiran Das, a resident of Mahadeb Bari in Udharbond.
The Complaint and Arrest
The arrest was carried out by Sub-Inspector Papli Duwara of the Udharbond Police Station.
- Accused: Samiran Das, resident of Mahadeb Bari, Udharbond.
- Arrest Location: Dayapur Bridge Road on Monday night.
- The Case: The case was originally filed by the victim, who is now 17 years old, at the Rangirkhari Police Station on January 18, 2025. The matter was subsequently transferred to the Udharbond Police Station for investigation.
- Court Action: Samiran Das was produced before the Silchar Court on Tuesday, November 11, and has been remanded to judicial custody.
Details of the Allegations
According to the victim’s complaint, the abuse began in 2022. The minor alleged that her father forcefully established a physical relationship with her and continued the abuse for a significant period.
The situation became critical when the victim became pregnant. Fearing dire consequences due to threats from her father—including the threat of killing her younger brother if she spoke up—she initially remained silent.
The Ordeal and Justice Sought
Facing serious illness seven months into the pregnancy, the victim confided in her aunt. After the accused showed indifference, the family was compelled to shift the girl to a relative’s house where she later gave birth to a baby girl. The infant was left in the care of the relative, and the victim was forced to move out to find work.
Facing homelessness and abandonment, the brave minor decided to approach the police to seek justice against her biological father. The accused had reportedly fled the state to evade arrest after the initial complaint, but was eventually tracked down by Udharbond police.
The Udharbond Police are continuing their investigation into the grave matter, which falls under the relevant sections of the law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
