SILCHAR, ASSAM – The Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has issued a stringent public advisory, directly targeting Banquet Halls, Hotels, Restaurants, Godowns, and all other Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), demanding strict adherence to waste management norms during the ongoing festive and wedding season.
The Corporation has raised serious concern over the surge in illegal garbage dumping being found on roadsides, in drains, and in other public spaces. With numerous events hosted across the city, this irresponsible disposal is posing an immediate threat to cleanliness, sanitation, and public health, severely hampering the city’s overall hygiene efforts.
Penalties Up to ₹1,00,000 for Violators
The SMC has left no ambiguity regarding the consequences of non-compliance. Any establishment found disposing of waste in open spaces or violating established municipal waste management regulations will face stringent penalties and legal action.
As clearly stated by the SMC, violations are punishable under the provisions of the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.
Fines for improper disposal may extend up to ₹1,00,000 (One Lakh Rupees), along with the possibility of formal legal action against persistent offenders.
The Corporation emphasized that such irresponsible waste disposal not only disrupts civic order but also undermines the collective goal of building a “Swachh Sundor Silchar.”
Mandatory Coordination for Scientific Disposal
All Hotels, Banquet Halls, Restaurants, Godowns, and BWGs have been specifically directed to immediately contact the Silchar Municipal Corporation for the timely collection and scientific disposal of the large volumes of waste they generate.
The Corporation has committed to providing the necessary collection services as per established norms, which are subject to applicable user fees.
Crucially, the Enforcement Team of SMC has been fully authorized to inspect commercial establishments at any time, and any lapse in compliance will invite immediate punitive action without further warning.

Issuing the notice in the joint interest of public safety and environmental health, SMC has appealed for collective responsibility from all stakeholders.
Establishments requiring waste collection coordination and compliance assistance may contact the following SMC officials:
