Hailakandi, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a significant achievement under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) scheme, confirming the successful completion of the initial grant distribution phase.
The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s focus on “Empowering Women, Empowering Economy” through the initiative, which aims to convert members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) into successful village entrepreneurs.

The distribution ceremonies saw the active participation of prominent Barak Valley representatives, including Minister Kaushik Rai and Minister Krishendu Paul, underscoring the government’s collective commitment to the scheme’s success on the ground.
12 Lakh Women Receive Initial Fund
According to the CM’s update, the state has achieved its primary goal of distributing the initial ₹10,000 primary seed fund checks to a staggering 12 lakh women across Assam. This successful distribution marks a crucial milestone in providing direct financial backing to female entrepreneurs.
The MMUA journey recently moved to the Barak Valley, where it witnessed massive participation:
- Hailakandi Success: Following events in Tamulpur, the MMUA drive reached Hailakandi, where over 18,000 sisters each received the ₹10,000 grant, an effort that ministers Rai and Paul actively supported, emphasizing the goal to strengthen the beneficiaries’ “financial freedom and dignity.”
The ₹1 Lakh Vision
The MMUA scheme is structured to ensure sustained economic upliftment. With the initial seed capital and guaranteed future credit support, the CM noted that these empowered “Didis” (sisters) are poised to help 40 lakh families reach an ambitious annual income goal of ₹1 Lakh per year.
