Marking Police Commemoration Day with high energy and community spirit, the Counter Insurgency and Anti-Terrorism (CIAT) School, CRPF, Silchar, successfully organized the Barak Marathon on Sunday. The event drew massive participation, bringing together 944 runners—including 92 female and 852 male participants—from across the region.
The marathon was officially flagged off by Brigadier Bikram Singh, DIG, CIAT Silchar, who conceived the initiative to foster a healthy, disciplined, and socially responsible society.
Youth Leadership and Community Participation
Students from premier institutions, including Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, participated in large numbers. Their energetic involvement highlighted growing awareness among the youth regarding physical fitness, social responsibility, and active contribution to nation-building.
The event featured two primary race categories:
- 10 Kilometer Run
- 21 Kilometer Run
The core objective of the Barak Marathon was to inspire local youth to stay away from social evils, particularly substance abuse, while embracing physical fitness, discipline, and responsible citizenship. The initiative also aimed to build stronger community-police ties and advance the vision of a healthy, drug-free India.
Felicitation and Closing Ceremony
Following the completion of the races, a prize distribution ceremony was held to honor the top performers in both the 10 km and 21 km categories. Winners and participants were presented with medals and certificates in recognition of their endurance and achievements.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Brigadier Bikram Singh extended his heartfelt gratitude to the participating students, dignitaries, volunteers, organizers, and the local community for contributing to the event’s success. The Barak Marathon stands as a testament to the CRPF CIAT School’s ongoing efforts toward youth engagement and community outreach in Cachar district.
