Rail connectivity between Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and the rest of the country has hit a major bottleneck following track settlement (subsidence) on the critical Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section under the Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
In a formal Bulletin issued by NFR on July 26, 2026, railway authorities confirmed that Line No. 1 and Line No. 2 at New Harangajao (NHGJ) station have been fully suspended due to track damage caused by soil subsidence.Line-1 was suspended at 12:00 PM on July 20, while Line-2 was suspended at 11:05 PM on July 23.
Currently, all trains passing through the non-electrified single-line section are being routed exclusively via Line No. 3 under strict speed restrictions and continuous safety monitoring.
To ensure maximum passenger safety, NFR has suspended all passenger train movements through the hill section during the 19:00 hrs to 05:00 hrs (7:00 PM – 5:00 AM) night window. As a result, several express trains have been cancelled, rescheduled, or regulated between July 25 and July 28, 2026.
